Kimberly West is a member of the clinical staff at Washington & West, LLC. Ms. West’s focus is to provide proper clinical review and interpretation of medical records to assist with the appeal of denied Medicare, Medicaid and third party payer claims. Ms. West obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Towson State University. She is licensed as a registered nurse (RN) in Maryland, is a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) and an American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer.
Prior to joining Washington & West, Ms. West gained valuable insight and experience from an untraditional nursing career. Her nursing career started at the bedside, as a critical care nurse and continued in the areas of hospice and skilled home health care. She later moved away from the bedside to work on the administrative side of nursing and healthcare, first as a nurse liaison and later as a nurse manager/auditor, and in roles related to healthcare marketing.
In addition to acting as a clinical reviewer, Ms. West liaises regularly with healthcare organizations (CMS, HSCRC, AHIMA, HFMA, AAHAM, etc.) to provide Washington & West with marketing, training and continuing education support and to keep team members updated on industry trends and regulatory practices and policies. A second-career nurse, Ms. West has a successful first career with MCI Communications Corporation in the areas of human resources, training, sales and marketing. During her employment with MCI she was recognized as among the top one percent of the organizations more than 19,500 employees.
Ms. West is a member of American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), as well as the Maryland and National Chapters of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) and the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM).
